O Ya, Im Good.

Well, I can now say that I have had a photo of mine published.

I had picture in the Yuma Daily Sun on Friday and I have one in today’s paper.

It feels good...especially since I get money!

But it also makes me feel good in the sense that I now know that I am good at photography and with more schooling, I can make it a career in journalism.

I don’t think I just want to be a photo journalist, but it is awfully fun. I enjoy photography in general, so when I need to go cover a basketball game for my photo journalism class I’m not doing a half-assed job. I’m there to get the best shot I can. It feels good to be recognized for that.

I Get No Respect...None!

Have you ever heard of the Sundance movie festival? Most people have. It is a place where movie makers take their movies to show to the masses without worry of censorship.

Now have you ever heard of the Slamdance videogame festival? The concept is the same as the Sundance movie festival, but it showcases video games instead of movies.

Recently a video game, "Columbine Massacre RPG" was withdrawn from the festival against the creators will. The festival’s officials say they pulled the game to avoid being sued.

How lame is that?

Keep in mind this festival is ran by the same people that run the Sundance festival where censorship is not a problem. But when a video game comes along that might be considered offensive to some it gets yanked.

What is even more confusing is the fact that the festival invited the creator of the game to the festival in the first place, and then they removed the game from the festival when he became a finalist for best game.

So what does that say about the perception of video games in the United States?

It falsely stereotypes video games as a child’s plaything, when in all actuality; the average age of people that play video games is 33, far older than any child still in high school.

The fact that a movie gets special privileges that video games does not get makes no sense to me.

The video game industry makes more money than the movie industry does. The future is bright for video games with more advertising being put in games everyday. So, why the backlash with this game?

Maybe it’s the easy availability to young kids, or maybe it’s the idea of glorifying what was a tragic event. Who knows?

what I do know, though, is that video games keeps getting hosed for being violent and suggestive when movies slide by with little recourse.

Face it people, video games will never go away and the more you fight it the more it will become something you don’t like.

Its Still the Same Song.

well, another semester has started, and i must say that i am optimistic that i cam pull A's in all of my classes as long i as put the time in.

im glad the semester has started, because once it ends i have my associateds dgeree in the Media Arts. That means i am one step closer to moving to Phoenix to attend ASU.

The way i set my classes this semester should make things a bit easier. my classes are spread out over the whole week, leaving me more time during the week to work on homework, since i never work on homework at home. ironic maybe??

The Return of a Legend

Tonight I went to see the new Rocky movie Rocky Balboa. Being a fan of the original anthology, I was a little skeptical that it would stand up to the first two movies.

Walking out of the theater I felt a sense of relief, for this movie, however different from the rest, was true the original concept that made the first, movie a hit.

For the very few of that haven't seen the movie, the first rocky movie is viewed as one of the most inspirational films to ever be made. The story of a no-body making him from nothing can appeal to almost anyone, rich or poor. I can easily say that a movie hasn't touched me like Rocky did the first time I saw it...until I saw Rocky Balboa.

(Spoiler alert...if you haven't seen the movie, I will mention things that could possibly ruin a movie for some people.)

Rocky Balboa starts in such a fashion that many may have not seen coming, with rocky standing over the grave of his wife Adrian Balboa.

With old friend Pauly by his side, Rocky takes a trip down memory lane, remembering his wife, stopping at almost every landmark of Rocky's and Adrian's first date.

This trip down memory lane sets up the motivation for rocky to get back into the ring for the last time, the motivation being Rocky's desire to put the past in the past instead of living in the past.

Rocky has ways of passing the time during the day, running his restaurant and trying to re-connect with his son.

While on his stroll down memory lane, rocky runs into an old friend, The little girl that he takes from the corner and walks home, giving her the best knowledge of life that he could give, resurfaces at the old bar he used to visit back in his humble days in old Philly as a bartender.

This girl is the catalyst of Rocky's desire to put the past behind him, the desire to face the future and not view the past.

Rocky does not win the fight in this movie, if he won then he wouldn't be putting the past in his rear-view mirror. If he won this movie would not have the same meaning that it has when he loses. its not about winning the fight, its about doing what nobody believed that he could do.

Some people will not find this movie to be as good as I am portraying it to be, but some people will not see the inspiration in the movie as well. The movie is good because of the portrayal of a specific concept, the concept of conquering the mountain that is life, and no one does it better than Rocky.

The Future Is A Flighty Mistress

With the start of a new year comes the hope that the year will be better than the last.

however naive this may seem, it gives us all hope to continue on with our everyday life.

well, the new semester starts in a few days, and i must say that i am very excited to get going with this semester. i should learn alot about my future in the next four months, but i am cautious because i know that nothing is for sure in the future.

it is hard to balance life correctly, for you need to live for the day, but also work towards the future. this creates a struggle nearly everyday.
