Parralellism and Contradictory Statements: A Review of "V For Vendetta"

"This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vangquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis--vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."

I saw "V for Vendetta" Sunday night and i have been meaning to write something up here that came to me while i was watching the movie. It has been four days since I actually watched the movie, so it is going to be a struggle to get what I had wanted. But I am going to try.

The movie itself is set twenty yeas ahead of us in the future, but that matters little. All it does is allow the people that wrote the movie to show that America has gone to hell and that Britain has become the new super power in the world. Other than building the base of the plot, it matters little. Over those years, Britain has become a country willingly oppressed by there supreme chancellor. I forget his name. They have curfews that the supreme chancellor has control over. The government regulates a majority of the populations life. Although they are unaware of the regulation that is rampant in the society they live in, they do not question why these rules, such as curfews, are in effect. By doing this the supreme chancellor has uncontested control of the society itself. But how did he get control in the first place? That is the question.

By contaminating the water of three key points in the society, essentially killing part of their society, the Supreme chancellor was able to instill a sense of fear into the society. With that fear that the disaster that had just occurred, they elected the supreme chancellor to his position. He had made promises of action and followed through. He was able to win their trust through the fear of disaster.

Now is any of this sound somewhat familiar? There are similarities to our government all over this movie.

September 11th, 2002 we were attacked by terrorists causing one of the most devastating events in the history of our country. By using the fear of another attack bush was able to put his agenda into work. Bush took advantage of the fear in our society to push his agenda. During these times which fear ruled, we allowed the Patriot Act to be signed into affect. The Patriot Act is unconstitutional on many levels and should have never been allowed to be signed into power, but with the fear caused by the 9/11 attacks, we as a society turned a blind eye.

Then Bush started this war that has dragged out for over three years now. This war is a waste of money, time, and human life. There is no longer a reason to be in Iraq or to be entering Iran or any other country in that matter. So why are we still there? Iraq is a free country. We have done our job. We should not be holding there hands through the rest of the process. If they can not survive without us, then why did we take Saddam out of power? At least he could run his country! I am a believer of Darwins theory of natural selection; the strong survive and the weak die. If Iraq cannot fend for itself, then they do not deserve to be.

This is a direct correlation to the movie itself. Britain in the movie could be seen as America today. Our country is lead through fear. Why do we still have the terror alert system? It is a scare tactic. By controlling the idea that we could be struck by another terrorist plot, bush was able to get re-elected, then sign the Patriot Act back into affect. Bush has used fear to accomplish all his goals. It is time for change in America. Our economy is shit, and our country is in a decline. Over time, we will not be the super power of the world anymore, if things do not change. Open your mind and think for yourself. Do not let the government make you believe what they want you to believe. Question everything! Do not let your government control your life for there should be no fear of our government. We need to become like Britain in the movie. Not afraid to fight back against an unjust government that try to control us through fear. We should not fear our government, our government should fear us!
